Wandsworth Council’s Pump House Gallery presents Labour’s Own Sounding Ideal, an ongoing research project by Anneke Kampman, that investigates the social and artistic functions of the music video form and its modes of production.
This now pervasive form is used as a framework to consider broader concerns with standardisation, artistic autonomy and cultural economy. Across the exhibition, works trace the historical development of the music video, from the birth of MTV in 1981 to its present day YouTube ubiquity.

The exhibition features a web-based archive of music videos and an integral video work, which attempts to critique the music video form. Through considering the shifting cultural, technological and
economic conditions that inform music video production, this form is used as a lens through which to address the changing concerns of everyday life.
