I am an italian graphic designer specialised in calligraphy & lettering. The form of writing is my main interest. Be it written, hand-drawn or digital the most important thing is to connect the elements in a unique way, trying to find a balance between harmony and tension. Looking for the marriage of form and content to amplify the message.
I work mainly by hand and only in the final steps, if necessary, I re-draw the letters digitally, otherwise I simply scan at high resolution to keep the material quality of the line. From packaging to the headlines, from logotypes to publishing, calligraphy and lettering offers a unique and unrepeatable solution to give elegance, power and individuality to the words.
My inspiration comes from the past and contemporary masters. Difficult to name them all but definitely above all is Hermann Zapf. His letters are at once classic and modern. One of my teacher told me, "you need to study the historical models and ... Herman Zapf."
In the future I hope to work a lot for the covers of books and magazines. Make the calligraphy / lettering conceptually and visually consistent with the kind of picture / text of a certain page. A kind of synesthesia.
