Rosanna Tasker: Illustration
Currently my work is quite varied in style and subject matter as I'm still enjoying the experimental stages. I like combining delicate pencil line-work with a limited palette of bold gouache to add pops of colour, working on each component in separate layers on a lightbox. I tend to produce quite detailed illustrations, often with elongated elements and exaggerated/ stylised character silhouettes.
I much prefer working in the company of others, I find it far more inspiring than working in a solitary environment. I'm generally inspired subconsciously, I may have the root of an idea perhaps looking out the window on a train journey and it might only take form as something tangible several months later, possibly even unrecognisable from the original concept. I adore anything with a 1920s or Edwardian feel and often like to incorporate a sense of that in my characters and settings.
At the moment I'm very much interested in working towards children's book illustration. I love creating semi-surreal narratives with bizarre or eccentric elements to spark the imagination of the reader. Nevertheless I'm extremely open to trying several different outlets of illustration and design, particularly book jackets, posters, editorial, print and pattern, etc.
