Artist Spotlight / Simone Ludeman
When creating my illustrations I usually have a rough idea of what I want to come out with. Once I start sketching an idea down, it always ends up taking a different direction, I tend to just go with the flow and see what my brain decides to conjure up. I’ve always loved extremely detailed and intricate artwork, I find creating work in this way very therapeutic. If I try and draw something loose and simple, it turns out awful. My style very much reflects all my interest and I think this is the same with all illustrators’ styles it’s shaped by your experiences and influences.
I’m inspired by surrealism, psychedelic art, pattern, cultures, spiritualism, folklore, Japanese prints, nature, mythology, science these are some of the areas you will be able to see in my work. There’s inspiration to be found everywhere and I think I just subconsciously absorb it, then it may pop up later in a illustration.
I graduated last year and since then I’ve been working hard making new work. My plan is to send my work out to various Illustration agencies in London in hope of having an agent represent me. To be making a living as a freelance Illustrator would be my a dream job!
I’m also collaborating on some video projects with a friend of mine and have recently been venturing into more graphic design based work. It’s good to shake things up a bit and not always stick to one medium.
