DAVID LYLE

David Lyle uses old photographs and pop culture symbols as the basis for his paintings. He creates his black and white pictures using a painting process that involves using only black paint and reducing the rest with a cloth, creating an impressive photorealism effect. His paintings appear to be using the pop references to comment on art and technology today... whether you find them funny or thought-provoking is up to you, but anyone who manages to get graffiti, Elmo and the good old Simpsons into their work has got to be pretty awesome, right?
