DEPRESSING ZOO ANIMALS IN SITU

It's hard to gauge how an animal feels about being held in a zoo. There's a high chance it was born there, meaning it doesn't even know of the expansive plains it could be bounding across at will. I like to therefore believe they are blissfully ignorant. That's the thing, many zoos breed animals as part of larger conservation programs, which can only be commended.

But this probably won't assuage any guilt you feel once you've seen this photo project. In Situ, by Eric Pillot, depicts animals who look to be housed in the most depressing zoos in existence. Their enclosures are all fiberglass and shit paintings, meaning their locale better represents a Primary school production of the Jungle Book than a mock-Amazon.

The photos almost look worse than mop-up time at the abbatoir - As if these animals are simply waiting to die, stripped of the luxury of getting it over and done with now.

Check out the rest on Pillot's website.
