EVAN MARAGKOUDAKIS'S PLACE OF SOLIDARITY

The imagery we have related to the refugee crisis focuses on extremes; the selflessness and bravery of people going into the water to ensure a safe landing, the elation of desperate refugees as they reach safety, the horror of a dead child lying on a beach. Photographer Evan Maragkoudakis breaks from this style. His work is calm, pensive, but within the context we know that it portrays a tenuous, quickly broken peace; the pastel colours of the moored boats contrast with the dinghys crashing ashore. Maragkoudakis pays tribute to the people who volunteer to help refugees and, even with photographs, we can only imagine the things they've seen. Check out more of Evan's work here.
