It’s been four years since comedy whizz kid Edgar Wright graced our screens with a new film (whereas you can catch Hot Fuzz on ITV2 every other evening), his last feature being the pretty forgettable The World's End before an aborted spell on Marvel’s Ant-Man. Wright has kept audiences guessing about what would be his sixth flick; this week we have the answer in the form of comedic getaway heist Baby Driver.
Despite the title conjuring up thoughts of naff 90s kids movies (one may expect an actual baby to be the lead...), the plot follows a young, talented getaway driver played by YA heartthrob Ansel Elgort. When Baby (played by Elgort) becomes embroiled in a heist that's doomed to fail, he and his sweetheart Deborah (played by Lilly James) look for a way out before the situation goes too far.
Baby Driver has all the hallmarks of an eccentric heist, with odes to Winding-Refn’s Drive and an accompanying jukebox soundtrack. The early buzz from the film’s premiere at SXSW have been positive with a US release date set for August. Check out the trailer below and let us know if you’ll be going for a spin.
