PICK ME UP FESTIVAL

Pick Me Up, the UK’s original graphic arts festival is returning again to takeover Somerset House for 11 days. The festival, which starts on the 18th April, will include a live music and live drawing collaboration, chats with experts and most importantly the work of some of the hottest, contemporary illustrators, designers and artists around.

Go and look at or pick up work from the likes of: the Coffee Club, Zombie Collective and Human After All, who brought us the design of Little White Lies film magazine as well as commissioning those Olympics x Adidas posters that covered the front cover of the Metro during the infamous London 2012 Olympics weeks. If you’re into the creative industry yourself there are a plenty of talks to go along to, from the basics of making a living as an illustrator to the more technical: looking at the latest in forms of moving image.

On the last day of the festival, if you’re bored of simply admiring and listening to 2013’s creative geniuses, join in a workshop with Modern Toss. They are the design duo Mick Bunnage and Jon Link, famous for their cartoons for the Guardian and for using as many dirty-words that they can think of, will be there doing a workshop and creating the Modern Toss F***yeux Tapestry. Getting everyone to join in to create the longest cartoon strip ever with the highest number of profanities…

Head on over to Somerset house and the Embankment Galleries to take part in the crazy-creativity and look at the exceptional pieces of work. Tickets cost £8 for adults, £6 for students and concessions and £15 for a festival pass.
