The plot of 80s cult classic They Live is that the world is ruled by a malevolent alien force that saturates the populace with subliminal messages - CONSUME, STAY ASLEEP, OBEY (the last would go on to inspire Shepard Fairey no less) - only perceivable through a pair of special sunglasses. I use the film as a comparison to this zine by Rachel Denti because, to me, they're two sides of the same coin; whereas Rowdy Roddy Piper et al would have you believe that everything is under control through evil hidden signifiers, Denti suggests a world blanketed in plain old mediocrity, where you hold yourself down as much as the people around you do. A laboured comparison perhaps, but something has to fill the white space between the header image and the ones below (seriously, or else the article won't save properly).
Check out more of Rachel's work here, she's great.
