RALPH STEADMAN ILLUSTRATES BIRDS ON THE BRINK OF EXTINCTION
Ralph Steadman, who me, you, and your gran know as the artist behind the illustrations in Fear & Loathing, is releasing a book later this month called Nextinction. The title will feature Steadman's illustrations of soon to be extinct birds, meaning his vivid, almost hallucinogenic style will be tempered by the poignant realities of human destruction. We really are terrible.
Nextinction is a follow up to 2013's Extinct Boids, in which Steadman drew all the 'Boids' which have already been wiped out.
It's all very beautiful, albeit a touch bleak.
The bird in the title image is a Laysan Duck
Spoon-billed Sandpiper:
Blue-throated Macaw
Grey-breasted Parakeet
Nightingale
Eskimo Curlew
Philippine Eagle
Forest Owlet
Head to Popular Science for more information about the birds.
