THE CAR TRUNK SHRINES OF DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday celebrating friends and family members who have died. This year's festivities take place on 31 October. The iconography of the day has seeped into popular culture, and you're no doubt familiar with the skulls which abound the tradition.

While I'm not going to get a calavera chest-piece any time soon, I am still a huge fan of the day's distinct vibrancy. A particular fave is the practice of adorning car trunks with shrines to the dead. I think this tradition is tied to southern California, hence the old-timey American cruisers.

I found these photos on this tumblr. I've had a look and I can't find them anywhere else, so shouts to him.
