CLUBS AND CATWALKS: THE FASHIONS OF THE 1980S

The fashion trends of the 1980s were certainly quite something. Starting tomorrow, the V&A are staging an exhibition on the mainstream fashions that dominated the decade, encompassing everything from the New Romantic to the Raver, and their symbiotic connections to the ever-growing London club scene. Indeed, this relationship was to be developed, tested and challenged (eg. through the growing DIY aesthetic) as the decade tended towards the profoundly subcultural and anti-mainstream Second Summer of Love; think of the attire of those who attended the illegal warehouse raves in the post-industrial parts of the capital! This exhibition should therefore allow us to interrogate the often cataclysmic jumps and dissimilarities in 1980s style, which was, overall, pretty zany.

Head over to the V&A website for further information and ridiculous outfits.
