FUCKING AWESOME TEACUPS

Bethan Laura Wood has created a series of cups called Stain, which are designed to improve through use. The interior surface of the cup is treated so that natural tannin staining builds up unevenly into a predetermined image. The more the cups are used, the more the pattern is revealed. A complete reversal of the former reverential approach to teacups - excellent.

How can you make a cup of tea more exciting? Hide a bear in it! As you siphon off your brew, Angeline Tetrault's teacups reveal hibernating animals (also available in owl & fox flavours). You wacky Japanese and your freaky filtering of 'quaint' English ritual.

And in case you think tea is a bit 'soft', and you want to seem more 'edgy' with your English Breakfast, you could always steep it in a shark. This particular design by Pablo Matteoda is not actually a teacup, as you may note, but rather an infuser. In fact, it would actually look pretty bloody silly if in most normal ceramic teacups. But recreating Jaws in your hot beverage is still pretty awesome.

can i just say that this is no more than a tasteful reinvention of the great tradition of much more decadent designs seen in the Portuguese town of Caldas http://inet.sitepac.pt/CanecaCaldas.jpg

Unless you're drinking your tea backwards they're not drowning, they're surfacing from the depths! Pierced teacups sounds cool - got a link?

A few years ago, I saw a range of pierced teacups - fine bone china with large metal rings through their lips - very cool!
