A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

03 Monday 03rd May 2010

Ever have problems sleeping? Are these problems caused by delusions that the flesh-rotting, knife-handed serial killer Freddy Krueger will viciously kill you as soon as you shut your eyes? Well, if you don’t already live on Elm Street, then you should.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is a remake of the 80s classic by the same name. You’ve probably already heard the story (although it has been given a teen-movie-makeover) of a group of high-school friends, one by one meeting OTT gruesome deaths in their sleep at the burned hands of Freddy.

Although this film follows a repetitive and typically-teen format, what with the hot-blonde, unlikely survivor and handful of ‘you’re-just-asking-to-be-killed-now’ moments, it does offer more entertainment than other recent teen horror flops like My Bloody Valentine.

This remake gives the audience more of an insight into the disturbing past of Freddy Krueger than the original, which was needed to lend a little credibility to the twisted story.

The film has enough guts and gore, twinned with moments of genuine fright and cringe-worthy cheesy punch lines to leave even the most hardened of horror fans happy for the 95 minutes that Freddy tears up the screen.

‘Never sleep again’ might be a stretch too far, but if you are looking for a decent horror remake with some great visual effects, then A Nightmare on Elm Street should do the job.
