Based on the 2002 novel Johnny Chien Méchant by the US-based Congolese author Emmanuel Dongala Johnny Mad Dog is set in 2003, in the dying weeks of the civil war in Liberia. Charles Taylor's government is on the verge of collapsing and the rebels are advancing on the capital, Monrovia. Johnny (played by Christopher Minie) is the lieutenant of an especially violent gang of young soldiers who believe they are leading a fight against a president they despise. The gangs belief in their cause sees them commit atrocity after atrocity in the name of freedom, with rape, murder and brutalisation the tools in their personal war that is seeing the country fall into a state of ruin. Coming to DVD soon - watch it!
