It will give the 7,000 Starbucks in America the opportunity to choose from Spotify's wide range of music, adding them to the already 60 million strong Spotify community. Both companies are claiming this is a “first of its kind musical system”, and as I'm not familiar with other streaming services teaming up with a caffeinated hegemony, I suppose it is.
What worries me is the amount of hipster-baiting playlists the chain will try to knock up, like 'Mac DeMarco Macchiato' or something equally terrible.
Or they'll just throw in the towel and play Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver, meaning all the hipsters will go to Cafe Nero. This could mean Starbucks sales fall considerably as the alt community disperse elsewhere to drink their overpriced latté. A real worry for this tax dodging multi national cooperation. But luckily, I don’t care.
