We don't usually feature guitar music much here on Don't Panic, 97% of it is terrible and irelavent, and the good stuff is often too niche for anyone to want to read about. I, for instance, really love Appallachian Terror Unit, but I'm smart enough to know that most of you don't want to hear a band that sounds like some bins being thrown down a stairwell while a cat lady shouts about armageddon, no matter how fun it sounds to me.
That said, today Against Me! released Transgender Dysphoria Blues, the first full length they've done since their lead singer and primary songwriter Tom Gabel came out as transgender and became Laura Jane Grace, and I thought it'd be worth mentioning that here.
If, like me, you'd only really read about transgender issues in po-faced, politically correct, statistics-based and ultimately quite unrelatable op-eds in newspapers, then this record -which, as you might expect from the title, is written about Grace's (and others') experiences pre and post coming out as trans- should provide you with a much needed emotional shot in the arm that'll engage you with that stuff a million times better than a broadsheet journalist listing a load of numbers they Googled. Have a go on it here:
...and if that alone didn't grab you, this performance should:
Stirring stuff, right?
