AT HOME & ON THE ROAD, SWINGFEST SPECIAL: JOHN LEMKE

AT HOME & ON THE ROAD, SWINGFEST SPECIAL: JOHN LEMKE
Since 2007 Denovali has curated and organised an experimental music festival called Swingfest. The first few events took place in Essen, Germany, but since 2013 Denovali has presented similar events in London and Berlin. Ahead of this year's London event, we asked a number of the artists performing there to tell us their favourite jams right now. First up is composer, sound designer & solo artist John Lemke. Have a gander right here:
Ela Orleans - Light At Dawn
A recent discovery & instant favourite, from her album 'Tumult In Clouds'. Intriguing atmospheres in an addictively timeless sound world.
Liars - Scissor
Sometimes we all just need a good freak-out, in which case 'Scissor' really hits the spot.
Above, Convenient Store! - Død Kalm
Very exciting recent soundcloud discovery from Norway. Beautiful ambient vibes with a great analogue feel.
Scott Walker - The Old Man Is Back Again
When I'm in need of a good bassline, I turn to Scott.

The Knife - A Tooth For An Eye
Always fresh, always inspirational, always danceable.
The Notwist - Close To The Glass
Yet again the Notwist reinvent their sound from scratch with exciting results.
Grouper - Vital
I guess acoustic lo-fi is a bit of a contradiction of terms, but somehow Grouper always achieves it beautifully.
Mica Levi - Under The Skin OST
Best film music I've heard in years: unnerving, charming, sexy, retro and contemporary all at the same time. Plus perfectly fitting for the film.
St. Vincent - Digital Witness
A welcome reminder from Annie Clark that not all contemporary pop music has to be dull and horrible - hurrah!
