Catching up with Joker

Joker! What are you up to these days?

I’m starting my second album. It may seem soon, but I know how long these things can take so I wanna work ahead of myself. I have an EP coming out with four different vocalists (who can’t be named yet!) and am also working with Swindle on a collaboration - it’s going to be BONKERS!

Away from music, I’ve been getting back into football. I’m a super badman in goal, trust me.... I’ve also been watching too much The Fast and the Furious so I’m planning on buying myself a cheap Japanese car, doing it up, then going to a race track like a big dickhead and drifting everywhere!

What have you got planned for the summer?

Pretty much everything I said building up to the Japanese car - staying in the studio as much as possible. Non-stop!

Is there anything you’re particularly looking forward to?

Hmmm, yeah, I’m looking forward to giving up smoking, getting fit and getting back on my push bike. When I didn’t smoke and I was out on my bike a lot, it helped me make music somehow.

You’ve said in the past you want to learn piano, guitar and drums. How’s that coming along?

Very badly! I had a guitar teacher for about three lessons and then thought he seemed like a mild paedo. So I was like, leeeaaave it!

I haven’t had piano lessons. I don’t want to know the right way to play - I think it will get in the way of my creativity. And as with the drums...I think I will just stick with my FXpansion plug-in!

Who would your top 3 artists be for the ultimate collaboration?

That’s an easy one! Me producing with Buggsy, Scars and Javeon McCarthy. They are three of my close boys.

What’s it like working with Skepta? We can’t imagine there are many dull moments.

He’s a funny guy! The first day I went to check him, he was so high I watched him edit one photo for five hours! I’m trying to produce a few things for his next album, Konnichiwa.

You’re known to be a bit of a joker, so leave us with your best joke!

I’m a bit of a teef when it comes to jokes, I steal all my mates’, but here’s one:

What do you call a Rastafarian with no job?

Jah Bless!
