Meltdown Festival 2015 hits London’s Southbank Centre this month, with an impressive programme of artists and performers including Sun O))), Matthew Herbert, Jonny Greenwood and Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor.
This year’s festival is curated by multi-award winning musician David Byrne, known best for his role as co-founder and front-man of the seminal new-wave band Talking Heads.
The festival offers fans a unique trip through Byrne’s personal artistic landscape, showcasing the musicians and ideas that influence his work today. Byrne follows in the footsteps of previous directors including Jarvis Cocker, Patti Smith, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, Ray Davies, and Ornette.
The festival will also host a range of free events, including a ‘Bling ya Bike’ workshop, which will take place under the Hungerford Bridge. Artist activity includes a Big Busk, for Meltdown artists and musicians of all levels to gather for a jam, and a Big Sing made up of some of Byrnes’ favourite anthems.
Speaking ahead of the festival launch, Byrne commented: “I am beyond excited at how much of this has fallen into place. It’s quite eclectic and I hope there are some new discoveries for everyone – including me – in this edition of the festival.”
Meltdown Festival takes place at London’s Southbank Centre, 17th – 30th August 2015. For tickets and programme info, head to the Meltdown Festival Website.
