In fact, a lot of popular rappers have done similar things. Seeing as many of them are still paying taxes and charting in the top 40, let's assume they were lying about these claims, or at least embellishing the tales for the sake of their art. Which brings us to a freestyle/mega-cypher Eminem recently featured in. One of the lines in his lengthy, admittedly very good verse, goes a little something like this:
"But I may fight for gay rights, especially if the dyke is more of a knockout than Janay Rice/ Play nice? Bitch I’ll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance/ ’Til her head is banging on the railing, then celebrate with the Ravens."
It's pretty explicit. It name drops a woman who actually suffered at the burly fist of her husband, a man who looks like he won't receive a fitting punishment for his crime. Now that's an injustice. Eminem saying he'll repeat the act on Lana Del Rey isn't, it's just the rapper being a brat. He's adding a little spice to a lenghty career that's been a touch too quiet as of late, but the reaction suggests he's a spunky upstart trolling our sensibilities by placing a domestic abuse Fatwa on LDR. I mean look at this Guardian headline:
You'd think he was in training for a pay-per-view bout.
While we're on the subject, a voiceover at the start of the Marshall Mathers LP said Em planned to kill everyone who purchased the album. I can't believe it! I'm still here!
The line happens with about 6:30 minutes left in the video:
