Facing The Other Way celebrates the sound and vision of 4AD, the label that launched the likes of Cocteau Twins, Pixies and Throwing Muses. It also tells the story of the turbulent times which sparked addiction, depression, and even suicide among those associated with it.
The label peaked against a backdrop of social, cultural and musical shifts which eventually tarnished the dream and drove its founder, Ivo Watts-Russell, to sell up and disappear into the New Mexico desert.
The book’s author, Martin Aston, draws on extensive interviews with artists and label heads during these turbulent times, revealing one of the greatest stories of British independent music and highlighting an unparalleled era of creativity.
The book is available in paperback for the first time. For more information visit the website.
