FRANCIS BACON PAINTING BECOMES MOST EXPENSIVE ARTWORK EVER AUCTIONED

A triptych by late postwar painter Francis Bacon entitled Three Studies of Lucien Freud has been sold by Christie's for $142.4 million USD (approx. £89.1 million), becoming the most expensive artwork ever auctioned. The previous record was held by Edvard Munch's The Scream, which sold for $119.9 million in 2012.
