Each week we tip off a handful of the freshest records currently on sale in Bristol. Move quick – these won’t be around for long.
Various, Weightless Vol. 1
The first release on Logos and Mumdance’s new Different Circles imprint features six “spatially untethered” beatless productions from the crème de le crème of Grime’s new school: Dark0, Murlo, Logos, Mumdance, Rabit, Inkke and Strict Face. Dancefloor killers for the braver DJ.
This record is limited to a total run of 300 copies - and it’s selling fast. Copies in at Idle Hands.
Mala, I Wait Pt II
Mala Mystikz has a keen sense of humour, it would seem: a full seven years since ‘I Wait’ dropped on the seminal ‘Box Of Dub’ compilation on Soul Jazz, ‘I Wait Pt II’ has finally made wax in all its blazing, sun-kissed glory.
This blistering single-sided 7” has sold out nearly as far as the eye can see, but limited numbers are back in at RWD FWD. Don’t sleep – you might just be waiting another seven years for the next installment to drop.
Kowton, Glock and Roll
An uncharacteristically melodic smasher from Bristol boy Kowton for Nic Tasker’s ‘Whities’ label. This one premiered on Joy Orbisons recent essential mix, has been tearing up dancefloors since, and is bound to move fast as a result.
Idle Hands are expecting copies early next week and already have it up for pre-order online. Get involved.
Barrington Levy / Ranking Joe, River Jordan
This late-70s Steppas classic by Barrington Levy has been reissued on 7” by Jah Guidance, with the Ranking Joe version on the flip.
Collectors of dub, roots and reggae should be keeping one eye on RWD FWD at all times: the stock is constantly moving, with reissues, rareities and obscurities coming and going week in, week out. Head there now to catch this gem before it’s gone.
