I like beer, I would say that beer is my drink of choice as a rule. I like pale ale, I know I like the ones that are described as having a ‘hoppy’ taste and I know that The Five Points Brewing Co, The Kernel and Yeastie Boys are some of my favourites. I also know that when ordering beer it is often favourable to request the locally brewed stuff. I don’t know whether that’s because it generally tastes better - like ordering locally sourced meat and veg - or because it’s courteous.
I do, however, find venues that boast a selection of ‘craft beer’ a little daunting. Often the bottles are behind the bar in fridges so that you can’t read the description. Usually there is a queue of thirsty, bearded, enthusiasts behind who seem to know exactly what to order. I feel flustered and pressured to make the ‘right decision’. Really what I want is to take a sample of all of them, sit down and take a moment to decide properly, via method of elimination, which one I would like to drink.
Obviously this is not a practical solution. But do you know what is? Having craft beer delivered to you, in your own home, for you to try each month. A bit like those veg boxes you get, or those coffee companies that send you crazy mixes of hazelnut and guava or banana and strawberry coffee or whatever.
I like this idea because not only do I get to try 6 different types of beer, in my own time, without bearded men breathing over my shoulder. But I also get to tell them which ones I do and don’t dig. This makes up the basis for the next box and so on and so on. Each time, I’ll have 12 beers, chosen especially for me!
We got in touch with Honest Brew because we loved the idea so much and they gave us 50% off a Taster Kit for you guys. That’s 6 beers and tasting guide for only £9 for Don’t Panic Readers.
Come to mama.
