At the 2003 Mercury Prize ceremony, winner Dizzee Rascal wore a t-shirt featuring a picture of his own face, as well as a varsity jacket sporting the logo of every NBA team. It was, to this day, probably the greatest outfit ever pieced together, regardless of its presence at a well-known award show.
Sadly, a feat is unlikely to be repeated at this year's event, given the nominations which were announced this morning:
Aphex Twin - Syro
Róisín Murphy - Hairless Toys
Wolf Alice - My Love Is Cool
C Duncan - Architect
Eska - Eska
Ghostpoet - Shedding Skin
Florence and The Machine - How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
Benjamin Clementine - At Least For Now
Jamie xx - In Colour
Slaves - Are You Satisfied?
Soak - Before We Forgot How To Dream
Gaz Coombes - Matador
Who will join the likes of Elbow, M People, and Badly Drawn Boy in the annals of musical history come 20 November? Will it be Florence & The Machine? Will we care? Has anyone ever listened to Elbow?
