The new year is in full swing. Chances are, all the momentum you carried with you after a booze-fuelled NYE has been brought to a halt by the crushing return to your desk. But don’t worry, this year’s going to be the wildest one yet. As long as you take a few chances along the way.
One person to guide you on your new path to hedonism is Norman Collins. The dude spent his formative years hopping trains and getting up to all sorts of mischief across America. He eventually ended up in Honolulu, where he made a name for himself tattooing sailors. That name lives on with the creation of Sailor Jerry rum.
While we’re not asking you to start inking folks on the mean streets of Hawaii, we do think you should check out this new short from the people behind the famous Rum. Good looking guys and girls hop on Harleys and head to the Salton Sea in California - a former lakeside community that ultimately couldn’t handle the heat, turning it into an arid wasteland. Perfect for a brief trip outside the lines.
Even if you can’t make it to the California desert, one thing’s for sure: 2015 is the year to get out of your comfort zone, to head to a place other people don’t go, with friends you wouldn’t usually hang with. The film is soundtracked by a guy who’s spent his life doing just that. Iggy Pop is still performing with the vigour of a leathery serpent despite a life of few limits. You can catch some archive footage of him performing ‘TV Eye’ in the above clip, with the same energy he's always had.
If there was ever a testament to taking chances, it’s The Stooges frontman.
