Part 1:

We see the backyards and the neighborhoods where the shows are thrown and hear some of the music played. We also get to meet some of the kids participating in the scene and learn about their motivations to participate.

Part 2:

Born and raised in East L.A., Anthony grew up in a chaotic home without definable parental role models. Raised instead by his grandfather, Anthony was just 18 when his grandpa passed away, leaving him angry and frustrated. That's when he began attending backyard shows. Today, Anthony is confident and clearly very popular. He tells us, "Your friends are the family you choose."

Part 3:

Lauren is a typical 14-year-old East Los kid we meet at her first backyard show. Rose, Lauren's young mother, questions Lauren's source of frustration and motivation behind going to shows. That's when we learn that Lauren's father, Gio, is in jail. Rose, a loving and supportive mom, realizes that some of Lauren's frustrations probably stem from her father's incarceration and they check out a show together.
