Watch as Mala DMZ unearths the history of soundsystem music from John Peel's wonderfully eclectic record collection.
In a new online video series commissioned by the Space, six musicians have been asked to compile a record box drawing from the insane collection left behind by the late, great BBC Radio presenter, John Peel. The second in the series sees the Digital Mystikz legend drawing out classics from the history of soundsystem music, tracing the steps from reggae to jungle to dubstep - from Augustus Pablo to Moving Shadow to Big Apple.
John Peel was an early supporter of the proto-dubstep sound of the early noughties, with early records by Mala, Coki, Skream and Benga finding their way into his sets on BBC radio.
