Fresh from his appearance on BBC 6 Music, Micah P. Hinson will be gracing the Thekla ("a very, very hot boat", in his own words) tomorrow night, Wednesday. First visiting the UK in 2004, on the back of his debut record (produced by The Earlies) he supported Tanya Donelly at London's Bush Hall, whilst she toured her new album.
Micah, from Memphis in the USA, spent his formative years in Texas and has released four albums to date, and is signed to Sketchbook Records. He has also recorded a song for the Dream Brother: The Songs of Tim and Jeff Buckley record, in 2005. Previously, he has been signed to Full Time Hobby Records (home to Oklahoma-born Samantha Crain).
In 2006, Micah formed a group with Mark from The Earlies. Their EP was released on British independent label 4ad, co-founded by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent in the 1980s. This label is also home to artists such as Throwing Muses, Pixies, Belly, Cocteau Twins and Red House Painters. Nowadays, it is home to Daughter, St Vincent and the Mountain Goats. Worth checking out if you have not already.
A new album, Micah P. Hinson and the Nothing is out now on Sketchbook Records.
