NEIL BLOMKAMP AND DIE ANTWOORD

*probably not

With Elysium hitting UK cinemas August 21 and a sequel supposedly in the works for District 9, South African director Neill Blomkamp is fairly hot shit at the minute, and according to Afrikaan publication Die Burger, he's bringing some more compatriots along for the ride.

Everyones favourite South African rap-rave collective (and god knows theres just too many of those on the scene) Die Antwoord will be starring in Blomkamp's next piece.

Chappie, due to begin shooting in  Johannesburg in September, stars Yolandi Vi$$er and Ninja as themselves in the main role in what the director has described as a "fundamentally more simple story, a comedy, a heartfelt story, in a science fiction setting. And it's fucking hilarious... It's a smaller film, a more esoteric one."

Following District 9 and Elysium and their respective allegories for apartheid and the occupy movement, hopefully any deep subplots will be tastefully handled by the proficient (if a little highbrow) duo. After all, this will be their second outing on the (probably not too) "big screen" following Harmony Korine's 2011 sort-of predecessor to Spring Breakers, Umshini Wam.

Yolandi was also considered for the title role in David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but after she rejected the approach they simply pinched her fringe instead.
