In this post-ironic era of consensus culture, it's acceptable to listen to whatever you want without much ridicule. Even if someone is trashing the only artist you've ever loved in a scathing Instagram comment (or wherever people trash artists these days), you can just click to another page and find a million other people affirming your taste. At one point I thought Modern Country was the only music fit for a universal hatchet job, but no one even tut-tutted when I sung its praises on the site last year. I was proud of that one guys!!!
That's why I thought I'd highlight the line-up of this year's Amnesia Rockfest in Quebec. It's one of the only posters I've seen where I've recognised a band 28 lines from the top - and they're all groups I jocked like crazy between the ages of 12 - 18. More importantly, if you rocked any of these bands' merch at school/the park/the mall you sure would've received a few harsh comments. Or worse, had the shit kicked out of you while you failed to roll a spliff under a metal half-pipe.
So I salute these bands for still going strong today. Even the Offspring (they were pretty terrrible tbh). No one remembers what those townies were listening to anyway.
