Despite his overarching reputation as one-third of the Hessle Audio triumvirate, there's always been a sense that Pangaea enjoys keeping to his own territory.
Even by Hessle's standards his releases have always felt esoteric, singular and oddball – and as a result they have remained amongst the label's most exciting and hard-wearing to date.
The sense of an independent trajectory was furthered with the launch of new label, Hadal, in 2012 - a move that saw him take four years away from Hessle to self-release three of his best records to date. Crucially, the Hadal releases would have sounded just fine amongst Hessle’s contemporary output - but released in isolation this way they feel, like their maker, in a unique headspace of their own.
Now, four years on, we find him back on home turf with debut album ‘In Drum Play’, following label-mate Pearson Sound into the murky territories of the dance music LP.
