Opal Tapes @ Arnolfini
On Friday 31st January, the Arnolfini are hosting a night showcasing three live performances under the up-and-coming record label, Opal Tapes. Founded by Stephen Bishop, Opal Tapes are a UK based record label that are turning back the clock and producing electronic/house/techno records exclusively on limited-run cassette tapes. On a UK wide tour, they are coming to Bristol with three live performances from Karen Dwyer, Basic House and Dwellings and Druss, promising to be an unforgettable night of music.
Karen Dwyer is first on the line-up. Born in Michigan but based in London, she is a solo artist whose experimental electronic tracks draw on classic house and techno lines mixed up with noise and drone. Her 3-track album ‘Kiki the Wormhole’ released by Opal is the most recent to have been released following the success of debut album ‘Needs Continuum’.
Next up, Basic House is the solo- venture of Opal Tapes’ founder, Stephen Bishop. Described as ‘a mainstay of the North-East's DIY scene’, Basic House is a blend of techno, esoteric, acousmatic and drone and, again, his debut album released by Digitalis Records has been highly acclaimed within the music scene. And finally, Dwelling and Druss are the intriguing new off-shoot of ‘krautdrone rockers Gnod, self-acknowledged as “nervous nano-Gnodness for a rave new world”, the live performance of Dwelling and Druss is sure to be a stand-out experience.
If you’re not already typing in your card details to order tickets, then the Arnolfini are running a competition to give away 5 pairs of free tickets for this event. Get your answers in by Monday 27th January and you could be seeing this event for free.
