It seems like anyone with an internet connection is starting a Change.org petition these days. I'm hit with at least three a week, few of which are of any concern to me. But that's all changed.org (not sorry) after I stumbled across this one. Students at Queen Mary, University of London, are campaigning to have a proposed graduate centre at the east London campus named after Wiley.
According to the petition, they want to honour the grime icon and local boy because...
"Richard Cowie (aka Wiley) has made significant contributions to the field of music, achieved through the means of innovation and can be crdited with developing a whole genre of music altogether, UK Grime. Wiley has put his heart and soul into what he believes in, and his passion is evident in the quality of the music he has produced and still continues to make."
Will it ever happen? Judging by the fate of the proposed Wiley statue in Bow, probably not. Still future post-grads at QMUL can dream. Sign the petition here.
