A fan-gurl putting the mortal death grip on Future Island's Sam.
There aren't too many lead singers these days who can be classed as genuine showmen. That's not to say ultra-talented lyricists and musicians don't appear throughout the charts, but very few can work a stage in a way that captivates an audience in dumbfounded joy.
That's why Future Islands is now my new favourite band guys!! Samuel T Herring, the group's lead singer, gained minor online fame after a performance on Letterman that was all convulsing limbs and bellowing lines. Despite it being 1am and their third set of the day, Herring still worked last night's stage with the energy of a revivalist preacher exorcising demons in a southern tent. The crowd looked like they were witnessing Elvis for the first time.
SXSW is an event that's so corporate it's often more convention than festival. It was a relief to know there's still a man who will sweat out his bodyweight to keep live music going!
