The Kinks is one of the best British bands of all time, and after the success of the West End show Sunny Afternoona film is in the works. It has been a long term project of producer Jeremy Thomas, who directed 1988 Oscar winner The Last Emperor. The film will be directed by Julien Temple, who has a history of bringing music to the screen as the mind behind The Great Rock 'n Roll Swindle and Glastonbury.
While few details are known about the plot of the biopic, it has been revealed that Ray Davis himself is overseeing the soundtrack, which will include plenty of classic Kinks hits. The film will be called You Really Got Me and it will reportedly focus on the rocky relationship between the Davis brothers, who, in their youth, were almost as argumentative as the Gallaghers.
Johnny Flynn and George Mackay are set to play Ray Davis and Dave Davis respectively, with the film expected to start shooting later this year. Temple has already expressed his excitement, “The lyrics of The Kinks have always been fascinating to me and there is an amazing human story here as well which has yet to be captured on film.”
Not one to be missed.
