TRAMLINES

It’s no secret that local councils, industries and so on have greatly suffered as a consequence of governmental cuts to their funding. Take a glance at the forsaken industrial areas of Sheffield, for example – a landscape shaped by Thatcherism. In the east of the city, the Don Valley stadium has been forced to shut down. This was the stadium where Jessica Ennis was first discovered as an athlete. Some Olympic legacy.

But it’s refreshing that the city continues to stage its (now rather infamous) Tramlines Festival. This year sees the likes of Detroit legend Theo Parrish, ska outfit The Selecter and local favourites 65daysofstatic grace the Steel City. No doubt the city will come together yet again to create some sort of hedonistic hotpot, even as No. 10 continue to strip away its vitality and heritage.

Tramlines takes place between Friday 19th July and Sunday 21st July. Head over to http://2013.tramlines.org.uk/ for the lineup and tickets.
