TRANSMISSION MANCHESTER HESSLE AUDIO - REVIEW

Last Friday saw the seventh instalment of the Transmission series take part at a packed Sankeys in Manchester’s Ancoats. The much sought after Hessle Audio trio of Ben UFO, Pangaea and Pearson Sound at were at the reigns with Karren, Boddika and Joy Orbison also featuring on the bill.

First up was Joy O playing his first of two sets upstairs in Spectrum. It seemed as if the entirety of the club had decided to venture upstairs as we found ourselves squeezed in between a speaker and a bouncer with a constant stream of punters flowing past. The jam made Joy Orbison’s combination of early rollers and vocal heavy tracks a little less enjoyable however the set was still fantastically received by the crowd with the Omar S remix of Sharevari from The Dirtbombs going down as a nostalgic highlight.

Next we took a trip downstairs to catch the last hour of the first Hessle Audio set. With a reduced dance floor, due to the set up for the live Karren set, the crowd was cosy but everyone embraced the crush and got down to Pangaea pumping out some hard hitting tracks. We thought the sound was a little lacklustre in the main room so we decided to leave before Karren’s live show and head back upstairs to catch Boddika and the second of Joy O’s sets.

More rollers were on the cards for Boddika’s set, in a much more spacious spectrum, as he really kept the crowd going into the early hours. Joy O came back onto the 1s and 2s to wrap up the upstairs room and showed the dwindling crowd why he is such a talent. A slowed down Acid Machine from Mind Mike was expertly brought into Chappell from Barnt causing everyone present to go wild. As the lights came on in Spectrum applause rang out for Boddika and Joy O with smiles and sweaty brows seen all round. The Transmission team should be more than happy if every one of their upcoming nights is as good as this one.
