YOUR NEW FAVE LABEL: MELODY AS TRUTH

Ambient music has enjoyed something of a resurgence in recent years.

Having reached a creative peak in the late 90s, the scene became a go-to space for lazy, uninspired producers who could use the genre's fundamental tenets - minimalism and repetition - as an excuse for making fundamentally boring music.

Over the last few years, however, the genre has enjoyed a second wind. Album of the year lists have been reliably packed with great ambient records (Huerco S, Prins Thomas, Visible Cloaks), which in turn has prompted much-needed re-releases of many of the classic albums that inspired them, including Jan Jelinek's Loop Finding Jazz Records, the entirety of the Gas back-catalogue, and Midori Katada’s seminal Through The Looking Glass LP.

Enter Melody As Truth – a Dutch label quietly establishing itself as a buy-on-site outlet for spacious, slow-moving, blissed-out electronica. Run a deep bath and read on.

Who? The label is run by Jonny Nash, a musician and producer from Amsterdam. Alongside his own music, the label has released a bunch of great records from friend and frequent collaborator, Suzanne Kraft.

What? Proper ambient music with oodles of melody and slinky, submerged rhythms abound.

Where? Amsterdam via outta space.

Why? Because let’s face it – it’s 2017, and about time we all had a lie down.

How? Bandcamp.
