You can almost guarantee most of what you've heard about contraception before proper sex education is incorrect. From idiots ripping condoms by double-bagging them for extra safety, to dubious pull out methods, misinformation is as prevalent as facts. And it tends to be spread by morons whose sexual experience extends to an incognito window on Google Chrome.
Therefore, the only way you can get to 22-years-old and still not understand the ins and outs on what you should do to stop yourself from getting knocked up, not to mention avoiding infection, is due to a total lack of education. In this instance, the 22-year-old is a Colombian woman who listened to her mother’s advice of shoving a potato up herself for two weeks to stop anything swimming upstream. This old wives tale left the poor young woman with roots growing out of her.
She complained of abdominal pain and was taken to the hospital. Shocked doctors discovered that she had turned her body into an allotment, and thankfully were able to remove her root baby without surgery.
It’s clear that some communities in Colombia need better funded schools.
As always, it's worth treating medical reports from rural Columbia with a pinch of salt. Still, you can read the full story here. If anyone at DP habla espanol, we'd call them up to confirm. Promise.
