The story of Chris Kyle fascinates me. With 160 confirmed kills, the Navy SEAL is said to be the most lethal sniper in American military history. His own death-count is almost double that figure, but then it seems like snipers are prone to statistic inflation.
I always thought snipers were conflicted figures. They've more discretion in who they kill than any other soldier, meaning the lives of the innocent are - in theory - spared. But like camouflaged reapers, they also lay waste to more humans than any other soldier. Few could fathom the effect this could have on a man's mind.
Clint Eastwood attempts to unrival it in the new biopic of Kyle's life. American Sniper stars Bradley Cooper and, judging by the first trailer, looks like it's going to cause anxiety attacks.
P.s. Kyle was killed at a shooting range a few years back by a fellow soldier reportedly suffering from PTSD. The story behind that is not something I'm willing to contemplate on a Friday.
