BRITAIN, 2017: STUDENTS THROW RAVE IN GREGGS

Last night, some students from the University of Birmingham threw a rave in Greggs. Like all great club nights, the idea started from a consumer engaging with a brand on social media. In this case, University of Birmingham student Nikki Gardner posted this on the Greggs Facebook page back in September:

"Any chance of having a party in your shop to get all my friends back together since coming back to uni? We LOVE Greggs."

Upon realising that Nikki and her friends weren’t complete wreckheads who would spend the night doing K in the walk-in before attempting to type ‘BURIAL’ into the Lenovo electronic till, Greggs granted her wish. On Wednesday night, the #MinistryofGreggs was born.

Does this story tell us something about nightlife in 2017? About students? Millennials? Brexit!?

In a word (two words), probably not.

However, it does tell us that the nation’s preeminent floggers of Steak Bakes will do anything for a bit of press that will go viral. So here you go Greggs. We’ll add to this raging content stream and dump a screengrab of a tweet from the night below:

Please give us a free Katsu bake.
