DID AN OLD LADY REALLY CALL OUT A MAN FOR SLUT SHAMING ON THE TUBE?

There's a news story making the rounds about a sassy old lady cussing out a man on the tube for slut shaming a young woman. It's been featured on the Metro, Daily Mail, Stylist, HuffPo and a whole slew of smaller outlets. How, you must wonder, did this story come to fill the pages of such esteemed publications? Was a plucky young reporter perpetually riding the rails in hope of spying the next racist rant/assault first hand? Did someone video the whole incident a la the cocaine banker? Or did Jesus deliver the 411 in one of Paul Dacre's visions again?

No, some random guy called Scott said it on his Facebook:

Now am I a real shit for not believing this? Is my predisposed skepticism an example of why the world is such a cold, awful place? Very likely. But c'maaaaaaan, bloody look at it. It takes place in a public arena many of us use every day. It deals with a retrograde attitude that most enlightened internet folk object to. It pits an unlikely hero against a besuited foe. Said unlikely hero utters the words "PARTY CITY ALL INVITED", which is a phrase no one has ever used ever. In short, it seems to be written with the sole intention of it going viral.

And it worked. Everyone wants to hear about someone's comeuppance being served, about the villains of our congested city finally being shat upon by the downtrodden they're trying to squeeze out. They want to hear it so much that they'll dismiss crazy notions of 'verification' and 'facts' and 'PARTY CITY ALL INVITED' just to feel a brief pang of joy on a cold, awful planet.

Scott Sparrow, who wrote it, appears to be a jobbing actor, a career that no doubt requires a bit of self-promotion. Many of his other statuses seem hard to believe, and no less desperate to garner Likes + Shares:

Oh, fuck off Scott.

Do you think I'm a tosser for saying this? Are you the old lady Scott is referring to? Or the young woman who hugged her as a thank you? Perhaps you're the man who got chewed out, and you're currently reeling at this savage wound of social justice? Get in touch.
