DON’T STEP IN A DODGY TORY CAB

When you next get a taxi, check what you’re getting into. Philip Hammond from Essex certainly had to. As Transport Secretary it’s very important to make people aware of the dangers of unlicensed cabs, so here are his tips for working with avoiding dodgy taxi firms.

Always make sure the company has been party approved – it’s a good idea to check how much they paid for this. If they’ve donated anything under £150,000 in the past two years you know it isn’t Addison Lee.

A good way to tell if it’s a good cab is to check their reputation with your friends. Many of the Conservative Party used Addison Lee during the election campaign, though they don’t offer free rides to everyone.

Of course, one of the best ways to know if a taxi is reputable is to think whether you’ve heard about them going to court for anything they’ve done (apart from in Private Eye). Luckily, Addison Lee have been acquitted of 200 fines, and thanks to Philip Hammond, will no longer incur more on the now defunct M4 bus lane.

Thanks to Private Eye for exposing this story about the ‘Secret Millionaire’ Addison Lee owner and his donations and dealing with the Tories.
