It's self-evident to say that simply going about everyday tasks is harder for the visually impaired. Guide dogs are a saving grace, performing tasks such as helping their owner avoid obstances, retrieving objects, even intelligent disobedience- refusing a command if it's risky. However, a common occurance is for taxi and minicab drivers to refuse a blind person's fare if they're with a guide dog; this is against the law, but according to research by Guide Dogs, penalties can be as low as £50 to £100. In court, drivers can have their license revoked or be fined up to £1000 (plus costs).
Guide Dogs and Don't Panic London have teamed up to challenge this discrimination. Teach A Taxi Driver New Tricks is a funny new video showing a well-behaved dog personified in contrast to a driver's dirty cab, lousy excuses and unfair behaviour. It's an effective use of comedy that invites you imagine if you were in the situation.
