The Ku Klux Klan held a rally outside the statehouse of South Carolina at the weekend. I knew the Klan still existed in some incarnation, but I figured it only did so in fragmented splinter groups unfit to leave the swamp. Not so. At least 50 members showed up to protest the removal of the Confederate flag from the statehouse (after Dylann Roof killed nine black people in a racially motivated attack), claiming it represents their proud history of bigotry and military defeats. This footage from Reuters is, quite frankly, fucking gross:
The Klan was met by counter protests from black activist groups and generally decent human beings. They must have been pretty bummed out by the whole display. To think the KKK still operates under the guise of historical heritage is very depressing indeed.
