Here's a fun little nugget of fact I learned last night: during the Vietnam war, US fighter jets flew all over Vietnam using JP-8 fuel. This fuel was strapped on to the jet in external containers, and when they would run out of fuel the pilots would just drop them to lighten the weight of the plane. By the end of the Vietnam War the US had left a lot of the fighter jet fuel tanks in rural Vietnam.
