Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to catch a rodeo in Tucson, Arizona. Like most newcomers, I wanted to witness the sheer insanity of the bulls, because watching cowboys cling to an enraged, half-tonne animal as it bucks wildly and gobs snot everywhere is something few people can resist. While the main event was certainly exciting, I'd been steeled against any great surprises or gnarly injuries by countless hours spent watching 'rodeo fails' on YouTube.
The event that really stuck with me was called Mutton Busting. It involves children as young as five riding a terrified mutton as it tries to buck them off. Sadly, I couldn't get any decent pics on my phone when I was there, so I've had to rely on the net for these ones. At the time, the kids looked like they were enjoying it. But seeing their terrified faces in photos makes me reconsider that thought. Still, better than them being in front of the telly and all that.
